Neck rolls are one of several yoga exercises you can squeeze in anywhere, not just on your yoga mat.
"I don't have enough time to exercise!" lament SO many people when discussing their frustration with starting or maintaining a yoga practice or any exercise regime.
Yet, if you feel it is important to do something, you will get creative and figure a way to do it. In blog posts I have written over the years, I have mentioned that I often "slip in" certain yoga poses during the day at my office as a mini-break. If I am alone in the ladies' room I will do the side bends or backward hand clasp or a forward bend.
Years ago, a series of books on different topics came out with the title the "One Minute Manager," the "One Minute Salesperson," and even the "One Minute Meditator." The premise of these books was that you only need a minute here and there throughout the day to achieve certain goals.
You can do the same with yoga. By slipping in certain yoga poses in a minute here and a minute there throughout the day, by being a "one minute yogi," yoga becomes a part of your lifestyle and you can gain tremendous benefits.
This week I was reminded of the value of being a one minute yogi when I came across the Yoga Journal review of a brand new book, Yoga Sparks:108 East Practices for Stress Release in a Minute or Less"(published August 2013) by yoga therapist and award-winning journalist Carol Krucoff. I just ordered the book from Amazon.com after I reviewed some sample pages. It appears that it will be a valuable, down-to-earth, and fun addition to my yoga library.
According to the review, "Years of helping injred and ill students convinced Krucoff that yoga's teachings often do the most good when interwoven into daily life. As little as even a minute of practice in the midst of a busy day has lasting benefits,.."
I could not agree more!
I look forward to reading Yoga Sparks and incorporating Krucoff's expert tips to my daily yoga practice. After I read the book, I will review it here.
Yours for being a one minute yogi,
