Yesterday, I appreciated the core theme of a message in a spiritual magazine I read regularly. It stated, "I am renewed in body, mind, and spirit." That is the holistic benefit of a daily gentle hatha yoga practice! It keeps you well-tuned and properly maintained throughout your entire being.
While many people tout the importance of staying fit with intense, demanding, fast-paced "workouts," I consider it equally vital to maintain and enhance your energy, flexibility, and serenity with gentle, slo' mo' yoga "work-ons." I call them "work-ons" because gentle yoga practice done with a contemplative and mindful spirit enables you to "work on" aligning and energizing your entire body from the inside out. Synchronizing the yoga moves with deep inhalations and exhalations allows you to gain a sense of peace, energy, clarity, and vitality.
Consider the the arm and leg stretch shown above, It's not a mere backward stretch that enhances the elasticity of your spine. It also helps you: 1) develop your sense of balance; 2) relieve and reduce tension in the back and thighs; and 3) increase your poise and grace as you sit and walk which leads to improved posture. In effect, it is "working on" you in seeral ways. So, consider gentle yoga "work-ons" the perfect complement for your "workouts."

Practice yoga with joy and laughter. Recently, a number of yoga teachers have been incorporating "laughter yoga," i.e., the practice of deep belly laughing,into their classes to add levity and variety to the class. Life is too precious to get bent out of shape when you can't quite "bend into shape" when you first learn certain yoga poses. Laugh it off and try again the following day!

Yoga is a best activity which will help you improve your overall flexibility and is sure to clear your mind so that you feel more centered and control of your life. One of the best things about yoga is that it can be practiced almost anywhere, with virtually no equipment. Plus people of nearly any age can safely practice yoga.
