I love the Coldplay tune, "Viva La Vida," which came out a few months ago. Something about the music in that song just stirs my soul and revs me up to no end. When it comes on the XM radio or when I listen to it on my ipod, I can't help but sing or dance along to it, much to my kids' chagrin.
In all candor, I haven't yet had the time to really decipher the lyrics. And, they do seem rather bleak -about someone who once ruled as a king or something like that and things went downhill. I do, however, love and understand the name of the song, "Viva la Vida," which in Spanish means to "live life." The name of the song seems to contradict the gloomy tone of the lyrics.
What does "viva la vida" though have to do with yoga? Everything! When you practice gentle hatha yoga daily with focus and pour your heart into it, your mind, body, and soul become one, become unified. When they are unified, and when your body is more flexible and supple, you enjoy more energy, peace, and more "life." A daily dose of yoga enables you to truly be alive and awake and hence you can obey the command, "viva la vida!" (Who knows, maybe actress and yogi Gwyneth Paltrow, wife of Coldplay's lead vocalist, Chris Martin, helped him create the name of the song....)
