Just the other day I read an inspirational article about a businessman who had discovered bikram yoga and attributed reduced stress and increased well-being to his regular bikram yoga classes.
This guy is really committed! He attends classes virtually daily - even on his frequent travels to major cities such as New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles etc. Apparently he has scoped out all the bikram yoga studios in all the cities to which he travels regularly and thus rarely, if ever, misses a class no matter where he is!
He admits that his investment in this commitment to yoga practice carries a steep price tag - roughly $125 a week. Also, when he is on business travel, it usually takes him 2-3 hours for the class plus his round-trip commute to the particular yoga studio. He now considers yoga a vital component of his life and always does yoga before seeing a client.
What an inspiration! Yet, how daunting as well. This particular businessman is a solopreneur - i.e., he has a one-person business and I don't know if he has a spouse or children, the article didn't say. For busy non-athletes like me - this type of schedule and financial commitment just wouldn't work. It's laudable but probably not practical for many people.
That's why I advocate a regular home practice. It costs me very little - my initial investment in a mat, some yoga clothes (and even those are essential), a few books, and a DVD or two and that's it. I don't have to take time to drive anywhere and whenever I am on travel, I easily adapt my home practice to my hotel room. No need to take time driving to a studio. For the really busy person, I still think nothing beats a home practice for affordability, accessibility, and greater ease of fitting into one's schedule.
