The other day I ordered and received a 2-DVD set of the Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga Success by Deepak Chopra. This morning, I finished watching the basic level 1 yoga practice DVD which lasts about 40 minutes. The basic level DVD is a very good introduction for the beginner yogi. The poses are done slowly enough to be able to follow fairly easily and the instructor has a soothing, relaxed style of teaching.
I appreciated the instructor's emphasis on moving slowly and carefully and pausing between the poses. Key poses such as the cobra, the child pose, sun salutations, half-locust, knee to chest pose, and others are presented clearly. Although the instructor does not explain all the areas that are targeted by each pose or all the benefits gained from doing the poses, she does provide the highlights of these. As a DVD for the beginner, I think this one is fairly well done. I would appreciate a similar DVD that would offer a 20-30 minute core routine for the beginner as some people may have trouble squeezing in 40 plus minutes into their daily routine.
