One of the many touted benefits of yoga is its "youthing" effects. What does this mean? As Rosie Reichman says in her book, Ageless Yoga, "yoga is an ancient health art, developed and perfected over thousands of years." Many yoga experts and teachers agree that yoga helps muscles, bones, and internal organs operate at their peak efficiency. Most of us think of being at our "peak" when we are chronologically "young." If we have technically passed that peak or maybe never even experienced it if we weren't very active in our "youth," you need have no fear! From my personal experience, yoga is one way that we can maintain or restore the youthful vitality that is our birthright. In all candor, 90 or more percent of the time I feel as energetic as I did 25 or 30 years ago (shortly after I was born......!) One person in their 70s can be more physically fit than a 50-year old; likewise a 50-year old can be more flexible and energetic than her 35-year old neighbor. Yoga is a physical-mental-spiritual system that can release the imprisoned splendor within. By engaging in a daily Yoga practice, we focus on living in the present moment, on not sweating the small stuff, on stretching and moving more freely, easily, and energetically. By so doing, we can start "youthing" rather than aging and we can live life on full throttle regardless of how many times we have "swung around the sun!"
Yoga Quote of the Day: For those wounded by civilization, yoga is the most healing salve. ~T. Guillemets
