Greetings! This blog is dedicated to the person who may have been like me - kind of klutsy when they were growing up yet aware of the importance of fitness. I was double-jointed, a bit slow moving (or so I was told), uncoordinated (to say the LEAST!) and never played varsity or junior varsity ANYTHING. I was getting no exercise and was on my way to getting out of shape before I turned 18!
I knew I had to do something. Well, I was in high school just at the time that yoga started seeping (slowly) into our society. The Beatles had been to India a few years earlier (Now don’t start trying to count the years to figure out my age..) and one month, Philadephia Magazine dedicated its cover page and main feature article to yoga.
I avidly read that article which stated that yoga could bring fitness – both inner and outer – as well as a nice lean torso. (My mother had always suggested I needed to flatten my abs…) Researcher that I am, I immediately read whatever I could grab on yoga at the library and bookstore and in the next year or so taught myself basic hatha yoga. I will share some of my favorite books in future postings.
Although I had been doing yoga off and on for many years (as a complement to my jogging regime for many years - I now do rebounding instead), it wasn’t until about nine months ago that I realized I needed to do it MINDFULLY, not only to stay flexible and firm, but to gain maximum benefits.
Since I began dedicating a bit more time (30 minutes daily) and much more focus during my yoga practice, I have felt so FANTASTIC! Honestly, I can say that I feel more energetic than I did 20, even 30 years ago...and I believe I am more coordinated, too!
I am creating this blog to share the joy and fun of “living life on full throttle” as spiritual writer Marianne Williamson says, by relaying what I have learned about Hatha Yoga (tips, techniques, and philosophies).
I want YOU, someone who may have been haunted by memories of being the supremenon-athlete in your early years, to realize that you can gain vitality and fitness from Hatha Yoga, to feel and look your personal best. I intend to be your cheerleader and if necessary, your butt-kicker too, to ensure you practice yoga CONSISTENTLY! When you feel great, life can be so much more fun! Health is your birthright and Hatha Yoga can help you re-achieve it.
Talk to you again, very soon!
Laura
