Wow, it's been almost a week since I gave my first book presentation, signing, and beginning yoga demo. Today I am sharing a few simple tips that I gave the event attendees for how to make the most of their home yoga practice. These tips represent a simply summary of what I have covered in this blog over the past few years. They are basic but and powerful. My mantra is always: keep things simple, go back to basics and act from the heart! If you follow these guidelines , you will enjoy your daily yoga practice to the max! Here they are:
* Set an intention for our practice (joy, energy, serenity, peace...)
* Create rituals (e.g., use candles, put flowers in your yoga space etc.) to make your practice special
* Practice in silence or choose music that complements your practice
* Begin your session with a breathing technique
* Warm up with an egg roll and neck movements
* Always take baby steps and listen to and observe your body moment by moment
* Be patient with your progress which is not linear
* Synchronize your breath with your movements - usually inhaling as you begin a stretch and exhaling as you compress your body or move further into a stretch
* Move slowly and gently as if in a dream - "no pain or strain is all gain in gentle yoga!"
* Pause between every pose and adjust your body
* Conclude with a resting posting (savasana) for at least 2-3 minutes
Yours for delighting in your daily yoga practice,
Laura Venecia Rodriguez
These are the ones I still have trouble with, many days:
"* Always take baby steps and listen to and observe your body moment by moment
"* Be patient with your progress which is not linear"
Great list!
