I subscribe to the monthly Yoga Journal, one of the premier magazines of the yoga marketplace that just celebrated its 35th year. Almost as long as I have been doing yoga! Yoga Journal offers much advice and numerous interesting articles for the yogi, although most of them, in all candor, are not designed for the beginner - at all.
However, this week I decided to check out the short videos that Yoga Journal offers online. Most go way too fast for me and make me feel like a total klutz (even if I am one, I don't want to be reminded about it!). However, today I came across a fairly good one for that even the beginner can watch to learn a partial sun salutation that can be done at the office.
You can look up this video at: http://www.yogajournal.com/livemag/lmcontent/43. And, here are my suggestions for how to learn from this 2 minute video. It's very difficult to watch and do a pose at the same time, if you have never performed the pose. So, watch the video about 3-4 times which is feasible because of its brevity. Memorize it in your mind's eye. Once you have watched it enough so that you have a snapshot of the pose in your mind, listen to the video and do the pose without craning your neck to watch it. Because this particular video presents a simple pose, you should be able to learn it quickly. Once you know the core sequence, then go totally at your own pace. I'd recommend doing it in super slow motion and really stretching, inhaling and exhaling deeply. And, then just bask in the energy charge you get after doing this mini-yoga break at the office!
Yours for taking mini-yoga breaks at the office!
